In a Gaming Lull

How to get out of a gaming funk? After finishing Assassins Creed Origins and attempting to play Mass Effect Andromeda again I’ve realized I’m in a bit of a gaming lull.

I’m struggling to actually feel invested in a game right now, nor do I know what I want to play. I feel a little bit lost with where to go from here. I’m trying to play something more linear, rather than an open world, in order to create a palate cleanse. Except that’s not really working.

I’ll open Steam and just stare at the random games I’ve never played and nothing seems to catch my attention.

Rather than trying something new or a completely different game, I find myself gravitating back towards PUBG. It’s like comfort food at this point. But I don’t necessarily enjoy playing it at this moment, it’s just easier.

Here’s what I’m looking at playing:

Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. I’ve heard the port is well done with some excellent adjustments for the Steam version. I’m a big fan of Jrpgs but this game feels like a huge time investment and I don’t know if I’m ready for 70 hours of one game.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. I really enjoyed the base game and spent around 22 hours beating the campaign. I the think the world building is amazing and it’s really just existing in this game. I’ve mentioned it before but I love snow, especially so in games. I’m really excited to get back into the game and explore this DLC.

Divinity: Original Sin 2. I really don’t know much about this game, just that it has positive reviews on Steam and people seem to really enjoy this game. As soon of my friends have been feeling a little lost with games right now too, I’m thinking we should branch out and try something new together. As much as I enjoy my solo game time, I keep in touch with my friends through gaming so getting involved with a co-op rpg sounds awesome.

Maybe one day I’ll get past my gaming funk. Hopefully. Eventually.

If you’ve got some thoughts on how to get past a gaming lull let me know, I’d love to hear ideas.
