Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Pre-Review

I have been powering through Odyssey in order to finish it before Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out. Well, mission accomplished. Now I’m working on getting the review done but I have a ton of thoughts so I’m taking my time getting it done.
In the meantime, I’ve come short thoughts that don’t really belong in the review.

TL,DR: Have fun. Don’t buy XP boost.

  1. Don’t buy the XP increase. I know there’s been some scuttlebutt on the Internet about “needing” the XP boost. Or Ubisoft tuning the game so that it takes a long time without the paid for XP boost. I don’t think that’s true. I didn’t do a ton of side content and found myself fairly leveled. If I bought the XP boost I would have been over leveled and wasting quest experience. Just by playing the game on normal without any sort of boosts, I was a couple levels ahead of the “main” quests more often than not.
  2. Use all the weapons. I didn’t try anything new in the weapons department until finishing the game and feel like I missed out a bit. I tend to focus on fast weapons, like swords and daggers. Odyssey offers a fun variety of weapons that really should be used. Although obviously slower, heavy weapons have some really cool animations and change up the gameplay significantly.
  3. Don’t be afraid to explore. The world Ubisoft Quebec created is wonderfully developed. The world is filled with interesting places to find and cool battles to take part in. Go everywhere and do everything.
  4. Or don’t. Don’t think you have to do everything to enjoy the game. You can just follow the main quest-line and probably spend 45 hours in the game while having a ton of fun.

Alright, that’s all I’ve got for now. I’m going to get back to the review and probably move on from AC Odyssey entirely.
Thanks for reading.
